CADDY Format Specification

This document describes CADDY, an electronic dossier interchange and archiving format for crop protection products applications.

The first version was called CADDY Format Specification 1.0 and was the result of discussions between the European Commission, representatives of European Member States and members of the European Crop Protection Association about common dossier interchange format on electronic media.

The enhanced version CADDY Format Specification 1.1 from September 23, 1997 incl. Addendum Draft February 24, 1998 was created from CADDY Format Specification 1.0 by adding minor adjustments that will make it usable in the United States and Canada.

The CADDY Format Specification 2.0 was released on March 19, 2002 and was enhanced by adding support for CADDY controlled files, CADDY hyperlinks and other features that were agreed upon by the Joint CADDY Steering Group. The current document CADDY Format Specification 2.0 dated June 19, 2002 contains additional clarifications and corrections listed in the change history.

Any application that is able to read a CADDY Format Specification 2.0 compliant dossier has to be able to read dossiers compliant to former versions of the CADDY Format Specification. This also applies to the new Version 2.0 of the CADDY Retrieval Software that is able to read both CADDY 1.1 and 2.0 Format Specification conform dossiers.

The initial CADDY-xml Format Specification version 1.0.1 was released on July 19th, 2005. CADDY-xml is based on the CADDY 2.0 format, but introduces some important differences by providing the general information, a table of contents, confidential and non-confidential documents, report information and hyperlink information in an XML framework.

The TIFF-files are replaced by PDF/A versions of the documents, which can be either image-based or text-based. Additionally, a CADDY-xml based dossier can be instantly viewed with a common web-browser supported by Acrobat Reader. This standard is flexible to accommodate different dossier structures such as OECD, EU or any other standard.
