FAQ about the CADDY Format Specifications

Q: What is CADDY-xml?

A: CADDY-xml is based on the CADDY 2.0 format, but introduces some important differences by providing the general information, a table of contents, confidential and non-confidential documents, report information and hyperlink information in an XML framework. Please see the page Specification  for more details.

Q: Why is there a version 2.0 of the CADDY Format Specification?

A: The survey among CADDY users of the European Regulatory Authorities has shown that further improvements in the evaluation process are requested. Wishes and suggestions to further improve the evaluation-functionality of CADDY have been categorized and decided upon at the Joint CADDY Steering Group meeting in October 2000. The enhancements are included in the new version 2.0 of the CADDY Format Specification, e.g. CADDY Controlled Files and CADDY hyperlinks.

Q: Are the former Format Specifications 1.1 and 2.0 still valid?

A: All officially published versions of the CADDY Format Specification (1.1, 2.0 and CADDY-xml) are valid. Nevertheless new dossiers should be submitted in the most recent version of the CADDY Format.

Q: Will CADDY 2.0 continue to be supported?

CADDY 1.1 and 2.0 format compliant dossiers remain the European submission standard and will continue to be supported.

This means that authorities can continue to use already submitted CADDY 1.1 and CADDY 2.0 dossiers without modification. Please use the CADDY-xml Converter to convert existing CADDY 2.0 dossiers to the most recent version of CADDY-xml.

While maintenance of the CADDY Retrieval Software will continue, it is not planned to develop further functionality.

It is expected that future work-sharing needs will require more sophisticated review tools. The XML format lays the foundation for such future developments.

FAQ about CADDY-xml

Q: How can we review CADDY-xml dossiers?

A: CADDY-xml dossiers contain a viewer functionality. You can open the dossiers in web browsers (e.g. Internet Explorer and Firefox). Please use the web browser to open the file "index.html" which is located in the dossier version folder.

Example: You open a dossier version 1.01 on your CD-drive (example: drive e:): index.html is located e:\01.01\index.html.

Q: The CADDY-xml Conformity Checker (CxCC) complains that the md5 checksum of a document is wrong - how can I calculate the correct md5?

A: You can calculate md5 checksums with the official md5 algorithm. Hint: The CxCC writes the correct md5 value into the log file.

FAQ about the CADDY Retrieval Software (RSW)

Q: What is the functionality of the Retrieval Software?

A: The legacy CADDY Retrieval Software is a tool for reviewing dossiers that are submitted in the CADDY 1.1 or 2.0 format and is designed to support the reviewing process. It is NOT a tool to compile dossiers in the CADDY format. CADDY-xml dossiers can be viewed in Web Browser (e.g. Internet Explorer and Firefox).

Q: I cannot log into the CADDY Retrieval Software - what are the initial credentials?

A: Initial username is "reviewer", password is "caddy". You can add new users and disable this initial account in the software ("Tools" - "User Administration" - "View User List").
